AAAI Computer Poker Competition 2008

Two groups of our combined Practical Course on Artificial Intelligence and Seminar on Knowledge Engineering in Games participated in the third AAAI Computer Poker Competition. Besides the usual heads-up limit and heads-up no-limit competitions, a 6-player ring limit competition was held for the first time.

Two Workshops at ECML/PKDD-08!

We will co-organize two workshop at this year's ECML/PKDD conference in Antwerp. On September 15th, there will be the LeGo-08 Workshop: From Local Patterns to Global Models, and on September 19th, the PL-08 Workshop on Preference Learning. Both workshops complement our activities on the two DFG-funded projects in these areas. We are looking forward to many interesting submissions!

Data Mining Cup 2007

As in previous years, as part of our Practical Course on Machine Learning and Data Mining, we participated in the annual Data Mining Cup. This year, one of our students, Stefan Appel, finished in third place (among 248 submitted solutions from 688 registered students of 159 universities from 40 different countries). In total, three of our students finished among the top 10 (and were invited to participate in the international Data Mining Days in Leipzig), and five students finished among the top 20.

Best Teaching Award for Prof. K.P. Jantke

Prof. Klaus Peter Jantke who has a teaching position in our group has been distinguished by the students representative's Best Teaching Award. The students elected his lecture on Digital Games to be the best Computer Science lecture in the summer term 2006.

Data Mining Cup 2006

Nine Students of our Practical Course on Machine Learning and Data Mining participated in the annual Data Mining Cup. This year's task was to train a classifier to predict whether an item that is on sale at EBay will receive a higher or lower price than comparable items. Three of our students were placed in the top 10 of 189 solutions. Two students were invited to the international Data Mining Days in Chemnitz.
